In Conversation with Professor Sharon Bessell

We were privileged to host Professor Sharon Bessell from The Australian National University for an evening exploring child poverty in Australia.

Instead of a formal presentation, the night featured an in-depth conversation led by the Valuing Children Initiative (VCI) team, who asked Professor Sharon Bessell about her groundbreaking research on child poverty. Her work, including the development of key indicators to measure child poverty and the MOR Framework, sheds light on how poverty impacts children’s opportunities, relationships, and overall well-being, creating discussions on the need for urgent action.

The evening also included a relaxed and engaging Q&A session, where attendees explored the indicators for measuring child poverty and the pivotal role of policy change in addressing this pressing issue. The discussion reinforced that child poverty is not just a challenge for those directly affected but a societal issue requiring collective action from all Australians.
