'Grossly underfunded' community centres become makeshift cost-of-living crisis hubs - ABC News

Traditionally used to host fitness classes and language lessons, some community centres have been transformed into makeshift crisis hubs for families doing it tough across Western Australia.

Operating in Mirrabooka in Perth's north, not-for-profit Sudbury Community House distributed 20 tonnes of food to 2,500 households last year.

Some of the food relief has been distributed through the organisation's early learning centre, with Sudbury House Early Learning Centre director Yvonne Tilgner saying children often arrived hungry.

"Some may not even have dinner that night, they are very hungry children," Ms Tilgner said.
